Description

The AHIMA Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM) is seeking a Public Member to serve on its commission for a 3-year term, January 1, 2025-December 31, 2027. The role of the public member is to bring an impartial perspective to the certification program and to help balance the certification program’s role by protecting the public while advancing the interests of the certificants.

 

About CCHIIM:

CCHIIM is a standing commission of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) dedicated to assuring the competency of professionals practicing health informatics and information management (HIIM). CCHIIM provides strategic oversight of all AHIMA certification programs. CCHIIM holds the sole and independent authority in all matters pertaining to both the certification and ongoing recertification (certification maintenance) of HIIM professionals. Requirements

  • Experience with volunteer leadership and oversight boards (any type).
  • Free from any conflicts of interest or financial interest with AHIMA, the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), or CCHIIM.
  • Not a current or past AHIMA member.
  • Not a current or former AHIMA credential holder.  
  • Not an employer or an employee of individuals in the profession encompassed by the credentialing programs of AHIMA.
  • Does not act as a representative of any commercial firm with an interest or sponsorship in AHIMA, CAHIIM, and/or CCHIIM.
  • Is not a current or previous member of the professions, occupations, roles, or specialty areas encompassed by the credentialing programs of AHIMA.
  • Is not a supervisor, manager, direct co-worker, or an employee of individuals in the professions encompassed by the credentialing programs of AHIMA.
  • Is not an employee of an individual certified by AHIMA or an employer of individuals in the profession encompassed by the certification programs of AHIMA.
  • Is not an employee of an organization administering voluntary or regulated credentials.
  • Is not currently, or within the last five years, receiving income from the profession encompassed by the certification programs of AHIMA.

Time & Travel Commitment:

·         The public member must be available to commit to the following:

o   Attend 5-7 meetings a year.  3-5 virtual meetings that are anywhere from 1-2 hours each are held in addition to two 2-day meetings (spring and fall) held virtually or in person.  If a two-day meeting is held in person, it is held in Chicago, Illinois, and all travel expenses are paid for by AHIMA.

o   Commissioners are appointed to Exam Development Committees and workgroups.  Members typically serve on at least 3 committees or workgroups in addition to participating on the CCHIIM. There is considerable time involved in participating on these additional groups. 

o   The time commitment is approximately 3-10 hours a month. This estimate includes individual time researching information, corresponding, reviewing meeting materials, and participating in meetings.

The Public Member shall:

  • Abide by all CCHIIM Understandings for Nomination and Service as referenced in the CCHIIM Operating Code, and further defined in the CCHIIM policies and procedures, always while participating in CCHIIM meetings, when performing CCHIIM work, or when representing CCHIIM publicly.
  • Attend and participate in all CCHIIM meetings or provide notice when unavailable to attend a meeting.
  • Fulfill responsibilities assigned by CCHIIM, including responsibilities related to a committee or task force appointment.
  • Disclose fully any perceived conflicts of interest or dualities.

Ethics and Conduct: Potential nominees are made aware that if appointed or elected must adhere to all CCHIIM governance policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to, reviewing, attesting, and signing all CCHIIM documentation with respect to confidentiality, declarations of conflict(s) of interest and dualities, all state and federal laws, and intellectual property rights, as applicable, and as set forth in the CCHIIM Policy and Procedure Manual.
